Cheshire and Warrington Low Carbon Communities Network
There is widespread recognition that collective individual action is a vital strategy in addressing climate change (eg Peters, Fudge & Sinclair, 2010). The sub-region of Cheshire and Warrington is a vibrant centre for such action with more than 30 community groups forming part of a network.
The interests of the 30+ groups range from energy efficiency and reducing carbon to wider sustainability issues including local food, transport, waste and renewable technologies. The Cheshire and Warrington Low Carbon Network was established in 2008 to provide a forum for collaboration and the sharing of best practice and practical support to community groups in the form of modest funding for events, meetings and promotional material.
The network has a cross steering group which currently coordinates activity, information and resources for the network. It is made up of the following organisations:
Cheshire Community Action
Cheshire East Council
Cheshire West & Chester Council
Cheshire & Warrington Sustainability Alliance
Energy Projects Plus
Energy Saving Trust
Groundwork Cheshire
Warrington Borough Council
