Community Pride Competition
Cheshire’s Community Pride Competition, co-ordinated by Cheshire Community Action, provides all communities across the sub-region, the opportunity to celebrate the valuable work of community volunteers in making Cheshire a better place to live, work and play.
The Community Pride Competition, formerly known as the Best Kept Village Competition, was initiated in 1957. Its aim was to develop and highlight a sense of pride amongst local people throughout Cheshire. Since then the number of entrants has increased threefold.
The competition has expanded its outlook from its initial focus to encompass key themes that increase sustainability and improve quality of life for residents. The award categories, judged by volunteers, now include:
- Best Kept Village (supported by Shell UK)
- Community Vibrancy
- Cheshire Countryside and Wildlife Award
- Community Safety Award (supported by Cheshire Constabulary)
- Community Spirit
- Community Project Award (one award per district, supported by respective district councils)
- Cheshire Best Garden Award (part of the Cheshire Year of Gardens initiative)
