The Community Pride Competition, formerly known as the Best Kept Village Competition, was initiated in 1957. Its aim was to develop and highlight a sense of pride amongst local people throughout Cheshire. Since then the number of entrants has increased threefold.
The competition has expanded its outlook from its initial focus to encompass key themes that increase sustainability and improve quality of life for residents. The award categories, judged by volunteers, now include:
- Best Kept Village (supported by ESSAR)
- Community Safety Award (supported by Cheshire Constabulary)
- Community Spirit
- Best Newsletter
- Best Website
