Who can apply?
Small voluntary and community organisations within the county of Cheshire that help address local needs.
The Groups Must
- be a not-for-profit, third sector voluntary or community group working in Cheshire
- have been active in their local community for not less than 12 months
- have an evidenced income of less than £30,000 per annum
- be volunteer led (i.e. with largely volunteer based input)
- be connected with and/or meeting the needs of the local community
- Have a governing document (e.g. Consitition, Statement of Aims and Objectives
- Have their own bank account
What will we Fund?
We seek to fund a wide range of community initiatives. These may include capital purchases e.g. computers, equipment, or revenue costs such as, venue hire, promotional costs, start up expenses, activities and training.
Examples
- the purchase of equipment, like a computer, oven, furniture
- the costs of putting on a local event or workshop
- staff costs to enable the employment of individuals
- contribution to rent costs (related to activities/service delivery)
- the cost of attending a conference or event
- training for volunteers
- additional activities to expand an existing funded project
- activities that support community activity
- activities that meet an identified need in the local community
- funding to support an organisation to achieve a quality or other standard relevant to their activities.
EXCLUSIONS
- Individuals for their personal needs
- Retrospective Grants
- Statutory Organisations
- Statutory work in Educational Institutions
- Organisations controlled by public sector bodies
- Promotion of religious or political causes
- Overseas Travel for individuals or groups
What funding is available?
Groups can apply for a one off grant of £5,000 or the equivalent spread over the three years of the scheme (until March 2011). The minimum grant is £250 and the maximum sum available to one organisation from the Grassroots Grants scheme is £5,000 over the life of the programme.

Note: The application form in pdf format has to be printed and completed by hand. The application form in word format can be completed on your computer. However, the document still needs to be printed off and signed by hand before returning to Cheshire Community Action. Once completed please send the application form and any accompanying information to the address below.
Decisions
The final deadline for submitting a Grassroots Grant is August 16th 2010 for applications to go to our September 2010 panel meeting.
