The LEADER Fund aims to bring significant benefit to small businesses and communities in the Cheshire and Warrington rural area by making rural settlements more sustainable. In most cases it provides up to 40% of the cost of projects and Cheshire and Warrington has successfully secured grant funding for 2015-2020 from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
The LEADER Fund is governed by a steering group of local partners called the Local Action Group (LAG), which is responsible for delivery of the Local Development Strategy (LDS) – this is the document which sets out the detailed priorities for the fund between 2015-2020.
Your local LEADER Team and LAG benefit from a wealth of experience in a range of sectors from farming, forestry, rural business and tourism, to culture and heritage, and are here to help you with your application process.
The programme can fund farmers, growers, foresters, other local rural businesses and rural community organisations to help:
- Create jobs
- Develop rural businesses
- Support the rural economy
To be successful, applications must demonstrate sustainability and contribute to one or more of six priorities for LEADER, which are to:
- Increase farm productivity
- Support micro and small businesses and farm diversification
- Boost rural tourism
- Provide rural services
- Provide cultural and heritage activities
- Increase forestry productivity
All Applicants will be required to operate from within a designated LEADER area. Click here to see the detailed maps for the Cheshire LEADER Fund.
